Horrible news to wake up to, as the death of a legend and an icon is the first thing to greet me this morning.
I’m incredibly drawn to music as an art form, and have always found emotional attachment in the musicians and albums that I connect with. Amy Winehouse was definitely an artist I always admired and supported, due to an undeniable talent and incredible skill for creating unique and raw music despite her personal problems. Her death will signify her as immortal in the music world, and it’s sad that it takes the death of someone to do that.
As a 27-year-old, I’m sad to see another one join the ranks of the ‘27 club.’ I had been following Amy since 2006 when I was first blown away by Back To Black and never really understanding how that voice was packed in such a tiny white girl frame. I’ve never really had a celebrity pass away whom I really respected and admired, and it’s a sad feeling. Amy Winehouse’s music has been a treasure to me, and been there through some really tough times. I am very saddened that the world we live in and the industry she was a part of was not enough to pull her out of the hole she fell in. This will never not make me sad.
RIP Amy.
